K.J.T.M Sahrudaya Public Library is one of the largest Library in Mannarkkad. It was established in 1979.The library was inaugurated by Jnanpith award winner,
the late Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai, on February 19, 1979. It was a
memorial to K. Jacob Thomas of Karippaparambil, among the first settlers
from Travancore in Malabar, and a pioneer in rubber plantation at
Mannarkkad. He went to Ceylon to study rubber plantation, and with
friends, planted rubber on 3,000 acres of forestland leased by the
Mooppil Nair of Mannarkkad in 1926.
The library was
set up by K.J. Thomas, son of Jacob Thomas. The inaugural function was
addressed by literary figures such as Muttathu Varkey, S.K. Nair, and
D.C. Kizhakkemury. K.J. Thomas was among the founders of the first
cooperative society of writers in Asia — the Sahitya Pravarthaka
Cooperative Society at Kottayam. As a rubber planter too, his success
was huge.K.J Thomas also former M.L.A of Kanhirappalli.
